After much planning and anticipation, Alabama A&M University began construction on the new 132,000 sq. ft Alabama A&M Event Center. The building is just south of the stadium along Highway 231. Bostick Landscape Architects created the outdoor plazas and how the visitors will approach the building.
A large A&M logo will be out front of the building as a gathering and meet-up space before events. Strong patterns in the hardscape define a drop-off along the grand staircase. A planting bed along the staircase softens the wall at the drop-off, and places for benches are embedded into the layout.
Updating the parking lot from a gravel lot to defined parking created opportunities for shading and softening the parking. A large spine for pedestrian movement from the football stadium to the arena will help visitors navigate through the parking each way. Tree plantings throughout break-up the area.
