Huntsville's premier senior living community, Fleming Farms, opened in 2020 and offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care. Bostick Landscape Architects (BLA) designed the community's landscape architecture, starting with a courtyard for independent living. The independent living courtyard features outdoor dining areas, a fire pit, a walking area, and a putt-putt golf course.
The assisted living courtyard has seating on the elliptical walkway and covered areas are designed with pavers to highlight locations for family visitors. The Fleming Farms team planned to keep a substantial portion of the mature trees on the old farmhouse site. The farmhouse site previously served as a field trip site for Huntsville's school children. BLA's design is a strong planting palette to match the building's architecture flush with perennials and blooming shrubs throughout, so there are numerous blooming plants at various times of the year. The design team preserved the farm's barn and corn crib as part of the design. They are located within a large meadow at the foot of the mountain beyond to invoke memories of earlier times.
