Huntsville, AL
Realizing the need for more vibrant park space, the City of Huntsville expanded Optimist Park bringing in new uses beyond the indoor gymnasium and baseball field.

Bostick Landscape Architects (BLA) designed a new quarter-mile walking path to provide patrons a looped walking system around a newly-designed playground area. BLA divided the playground into age-appropriate zones placed several pavilions around the play area. Throughout the walking trail and situated around the pavilions, BLA incorporated large shade trees into the design to make the space more enjoyable while watching the children play.

The city added two new parking lots for visitors. BLA designed the landscape to buffer the lots from the road and placed large shade trees in the parking lots to minimize the heat gain.
The overall plant palette is a mix of perennials, blooming shrubs, trees, and evergreen shrubs for screening.
