This historic residence situated in Twickenham was renovated and enlarged in 2009. The landscape also took on the same type of transformation. Bostick Landscape Architects (BLA) designed various "rooms" into the yard, including an orchard, an edible garden, a rose garden, and a vineyard space. BLA designed the backyard hardscape into a patio that included a new covered entertaining area, spa, and fireplace.
BLA incorporated various retaining walls throughout the yard to help focus the eye, separate rooms in the yard, and transition the varied elevations. The plant palette is a feast for the senses with beautiful grasses and perennials that ensure cut-flowers and blooming interest all year long. The design also features boxwoods and azaleas that complement the period architecture and Southern setting.
In 2014, BLA returned to the site for the addition of a pool and firepit. The location of the pool created some interesting challenges and required unique features to solve. BLA used peacock pavers for the pool deck and constructed the sundeck from original historic brick. Walls of brick and stone separate the pool area from the rest of the yard and BLA designed wrought iron safety gates to be hidden from view when open.
