Huntsville, AL
With the amount of growth the University of Alabama in Huntsville experienced just after the turn of the century, it was time for an updated master plan. As part of this plan, the design team looked at several short-term solutions and a long-term 20-year solution. This master plan updated the previous design criteria to serve the growth pattern throughout the campus better.
As part of this, Bostick Landscape Architects (BLA) worked to create an extensive tree plan, surveying all the trees on campus and evaluating their health to help determine work to be done for a healthy tree canopy. Additionally, BLA incorporated a landscape maintenance plan to help guide UAH in best practices for maintaining its beautiful campus. This plan included a plant list for future projects to sustain cohesiveness.
In conjunction with the team, BLA helped determine new building placement throughout the campus and chose changes to the roadways to activate better and safer streetscapes for UAH students.
Three short-term solution ideas have already come to fruition, including street removals, new dorms, and the Altenkirck lawn greenway extensions.
